When it comes to living in a dorm your first semester you never know what you’ll need, so you tend to other pack or forget the things you wouldn’t have thought you would need. I have talked about Dorm Room Essentials before which covers anything from room supplies to clothing. If you haven’t checked it out click here. I have listed 5 needs that will make moving in and living in your dorm easier.
1. Desk/ Table Lamp
Bright lights can be a bit harsh, especially when your roommate is trying to sleep. Remember, you are now sharing a room with another person. Having a table lamp will dim the strengthen of the light, and it will also make the room a bit warmer and homier. This will allow you to stay later without having to distract your roommate.
2. Command Strips
I have seen and heard people asking if they could nail things to the walls, well, the answer is simply no. Command Strips are the best thing to use they can be easily removed without causing damage to the walls. I recommend stocking up on a lot of them. Mainly because I know you will most likely be hanging up canvases in your room. I love using the one that you can re-attach! They come in handy when you are moving them around a lot.
3. Curtain for Window
Windows are so annoying especially when you are trying to sleep. I will be taking some night classes this fall, so these will come in handy. They are able to block the remanding sunlight that gets through the shades. Choose some that you love; you don’t want to be stuck looking at something that you don’t appreciate.
4. Sound Machine
This is probably the one you will want the most. Sleeping in noisy dorms is not fun. The ONE time I slept in one was during orientation, and it was so loud. All I could hear was doors slamming every five seconds. I have learned to appreciate my own room, and I am so glad that I won’t be staying in a dorm. A sound machine is a device that helps drown out sounds that are carried through walls.
5. Desk Hutch
If you like having you school supplies organized, I definitely recommend investing in one. They are a way to help you clear our your desk and spread out your homework or notes. They are super affordable.
